HEPA air purifiers provide premium filtration for cleaner, healthier air in the home or office. HEPA is an acronym for "high efficiency particulate arresting". HEPA air purifiers effectively remove 99.97% of all pollen, mold spores, animal hair and dander, dust mites, bacteria, smoke particles and dust that pass though the air purifier. HEPA air purifiers contain both a HEPA filter and an activated carbon pre-filter that reduces odor and helps extend the useful life of the HEPA element. The HEPA filter component is essentially an accordion of very fine paper-like filter material. The material is loaded in this accordion or zig-zag manner so that a very large surface area is available for air to be pushed through by the fan. Over time (typically three years) the filter will plug and the air will no longer be able to move through the filter. You can detect this by either noticing the reduced air flow or the reduced efficiency of the filter. The activated carbon pre-filter air purifier is a foam mat that has been impregnated with activated carbon. This mat tends to collect BIG particles like dust that would rapidly plug the HEPA air purifier. The pre-filter can be vacuumed to remove these large particles. The activated carbon pre filter also chemically absorbs odors. You can smell when the activated carbon is no longer working. These pre-filters are inexpensive. HEPA air purifiers provide a dry, sterile environment that tightly compresses the particles. HEPA air purifiers prevent bacteria from growing because there is no moisture in the HEPA filter cartridge. All bacteria and particles die when caught in the HEPA filter because there is nothing to facilitate their growth. You do not need ultraviolet light to kill the bacteria in a HEPA filter as some claim. HEPA filter cartridges vary in the amount of time they last. HEPA air purifiers can last up to three years in an environment without pets or excessive dust. HEPA filters in very dusty, dirty environments may need replacement cartridges in a year. By vacuuming off the carbon pre-filter owners can help prolong the life of the HEPA filter cartridge. In selecting a size of HEPA air purifier for the home or office, it is important to purchase an air purifier that is specified to clean a room of that size. For large open areas, it is better to select several smaller HEPA air purifiers and place them at opposite ends of the room, rather than using one large HEPA air purifiers that will try to pull air in from a long distance. Air purifiers are especially good for rooms with birds or pets because they can be situated so that they don’t blow on a particular area. The round HEPA air purifiers on the market can be a problem because of the 360 degree blowing. HEPA air purifiers have multiple settings from Quiet which is whisper quiet to Turbo which is loud but need only be operated an hour or so a day to thoroughly clean the room. HEPA air purifiers have sleek, lightweight, injection molded plastic bodies that are produced on an assembly line by the thousands, thus they are less expensive than some of our competitors whose units are made of wood and metal in smaller volumes. HEPA air purifiers can significantly reduce allergic reactions by providing a room free of airborne toxins. HEPA air purifiers are good for everyone but are essential for persons and children with asthma and allergy related problems. HEPA air purifiers can be placed in a central location, although they may be even more effective if placed nearest the dust or source of pollution. HEPA air purifiers are particularly helpful with dust mites which many doctors believe are the worst offenders in the realm of allergy suffering. Not even HEPA air purifiers can totally remove dust mites from the home or office but they can reduce mite populations and your exposure to them.
